Trump & Elon have plucked $80.5 million of FEMA funds allocated by Congress for emergency migrant housing from New York City’s bank account.
Kristi Noem, the new Homeland Security chief, justified the robbery with claims that the New Yorker Hotel, a dump where migrants have long been housed, is charging luxury rates and sheltering terrorists—all, needless to say, bullshit.
The mayor has been docile. "New Yorkers have been robbed in broad daylight,” City Council Finance Chair Justin Brannan told Hell Gate, “and the mayor is stuck riding in the backseat while Trump and Musk drive off with our money."
It was only two days ago that the DOJ dropped its prosecution of Mayor Eric Adams on five counts of corruption, including violating campaign finance laws. It escaped no one’s notice that this is a quid pro quo for Adams’s cooperation with ICE’s deportation raids, which violate city and state laws protecting migrants from being picked off by the feds as easily as, well, eighty million bucks from a secured city bank account.
According to an excellent report from the Center for Immigration Studies, immigrants make up more than a quarter of New York City’s workforce. An estimated 15 percent of the city’s workers are undocumented, a majority of whom have lived in the U.S. more than ten years. These people also do the lion’s share of the low-paid, essential, and highest-growth occupations, including cooks, home health aides, and cab drivers. Trump doesn’t just want to wreck immigrants’ lives. He wants to wreck the economy of New York City, which he feels has wronged him in many ways for many years.
To be fair, we do hate him.
Meanwhile, the mayor is having friendly meetings with ICE’s evil “border czar” Tom Homan on how New York can better accommodate his terror crusade against our migrant neighbors. Adams also assures us that his administration will look into what happened to the money.
