Leftward ho!
The State of the Union Address was widely panned as a mishmash of narcissism, bigotry, and lies. Jimmy Kimmel said it was so long that Kristi Noem’s dog had to shoot itself.
The Epstein files are exposing a global rules-free ruling class that can get away with anything. Marx couldn’t have done it better.
According to Pew, a minority of Americans, including only 42 percent of Republicans, are confident Trump will act ethically in office. The ultraconservative journalist Ben Shapiro, formerly of Breitbart News, called him corrupt on New Yorker radio.
The president’s wars are unpopular, not to mention incomprehensible. Only a quarter of respondents in a YouGov poll supported attacking Iran, though most think an attack is inevitable. Majorities oppose the U.S. getting involved in Venezuela — running it, taking its oil, sending troops — and most don’t understand why we’re there at all.
Trump’s use of a war emergency act to boost production of the highly carcinogenic chemical in the pesticide Round-up — needed for national security, he says — has turned loyal MAHA (Make America Healthy Again) moms against him and shaken their confidence in HHS Secretary and fellow anti-vaxxer Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
The violence and lawlessness of ICE and border patrol agents have alarmed ordinarily apolitical Americans, bringing even military vets into the streets to defend their immigrant neighbors — and the Constitution.
In a New York Times focus group and two polls, Democratic voters showed strong preferences for progressive rather than moderate candidates. For months these rank-and-filers have been screaming for their elected officials to fight harder against Trump. Even Chuck Schumer is holding firm against funding Homeland Security unless its shock troops are brought to heel.
Admittedly, Democratic leadership is near incorrigible. Capital & Empire reports that Schumer and Jeffries are sabotaging a bill to prevent Trump from attacking Iran.
Still, could Trump be moving America to the left?
